What is Digital Electronics?

Digital electronics is the study and use of discrete, usually binary, signals. Analog electronics instead uses continuous signals. Together those two fields are called Analog and Digital Electronics. Digital circuits appear in industry, communications and military equipment because they store state, reject a useful amount of noise and scale in ICs. A practical advantage of digital electronics is that a function can be packed into a smaller, cheaper chip as processes shrink, not a single “revolutionary” cause.
