Batteries

A battery stores chemical potential energy and delivers electrical energy through an external circuit. A cell contains positive and negative electrodes, an electrolyte and a separator. Battery systems may combine cells into modules and packs for electronics, vehicles, backup power or grid storage.

The articles below explain battery operation and lead-acid technology. Compare chemistries by nominal voltage, charge capacity, energy, power, cycle life, temperature range, self-discharge and safety limits. Follow the manufacturer’s charging and handling instructions. Keep used batteries out of general waste, protect exposed terminals and use an approved collection or recycling route for the battery type.
