Electricity distribution is the local stage of delivery between the transmission system and customer connections. Distribution substations reduce voltage and feed primary circuits. Feeder switches, circuit breakers, fuses, relays and reclosers isolate faults, while voltage regulators, capacitor banks and transformers keep customer supply within required limits. Distribution transformers reduce primary voltage again for secondary circuits and service connections. Reliability depends on capacity planning, protection coordination, vegetation and asset management, monitoring, restoration and safe integration of customer generation, storage and flexible loads.
